Life - the series (part 1) Where do we go from here teenagers? (1)
Well, I can only think of 2 scenario which excludes you from this topic:
1) You are married.
2) You need to support your family/yourself with no 3rd party help.
I was there and failed to decide but being able to afford, parents would definately want us to continue studying. We might(at that point) not see their point then and would just follow. I struggled and completed my A-levels and did below below average I would say. Currently I'm working full-time with my dad at his valuation firm as a valuation assistant while waiting for my application results. Of course I was disappointed (I even did a re-sit) at some point but never regretted doing my A-levels. If I did, I wouldn't be able to sum it up and talk about it here would I? Life and time continues even if everything crumbles. Glance at the back but keep your eyes forward.
EDUCATION
It was towards the end of my course when I manage to understand more about this education word. I wouldn't define it for you but rather use my term of ' - ' and ' = ' .
' - ' would be where your path is now.
' = ' would be the only 2 path you need to know. (the third 'your own' path would I touch on later)
What you have to do is to continue from ' - ' and choose one of the 2 ' = ' to make ' -- ' your decision.
Simple?
One path would be the full theory path where your results would base solely (100%) on the exams. (A-levels, etc) *check with your institution
The other path would be the mixed, practical and theory path (results based on both in class as well as exam) (Foundation, etc) *check with you institution
Now, you decide which your preferred method is. As for courses, it's up to the availability.
WORK
From the story Tuesdays With Morrie, Morrie quoted that there is still time to learn. The 3rd path i would say would be the working path. You could consider calling it the full practical course. This would perhaps be the toughest course you'll endure although it would be free of charge.
Unless you had actively been involved in active uniform organisations (namely The Boys' Brigade), community services, or be the driver among the pack, the exposure you'll face could be some what not to your liking or you're still so undecisive that you'd accept any work. The difference there would be knowing what you want and wanting to know what you want.
In this Full Practical Course, the only way to learn is to know what you want. If money is what you want, you could stop reading here. ^^

Life - the series (part 1) Awards, Presents, and Promotion
In my view, Awards are more of Personal Achievements while Presents are more of 'well done/congratulations' and Promotions are more of Practices.
Awards
You are awarded when you achieve something more than you had previously or among the immediate crowd. In school, when you do well, you are awarded certs. At work, you are awarded bonuses when you and your accompany goes through a very healthy financial period. At clubs you are awarded your badges after doing well in various course works.
In this sense, club does not refer to those entertainment clubs.
Presents
Presents are presented to one when skills are used to acomplished a task/mission/race/competition/etc. In my view, it's basically just using the skills/knowledge which you have already acquired.
Presents for the definition above does not refer to birthday presents
Promotions
Perhaps the most interesting part on this post for many would be on Promotion. As i've stated above, Promotion is a Practice. How would or do I judge a Promotion? You would first of all have to understand that a Promotion could be given to and taken back at anytime. Unlike Award, Promotion is an on-going thing whereas Award is based mainly on the past. Secondly, one would need to understand what the Practice is. Lead the team, serve the students, generate funds, etc. Note that it is never called a Practice if it causes excess harm/damage/de-moralize and certainly making un-reasonable use of people or resources. If you've got the 2 points right, I would say that the only difference between you and another person would be the believe and confidence one have for ones' self.

Life - the series (part 1)..........One of the many weird parts
It all started in July when I had this feeling of wanting to spend. Allow me to put forward a note adapted from Ben Randal (US Coast Guard - The Guardian) for your question of WHY.
If i can't answer it for myself, I am certainly not going to try and answer it for you.
So at the moment I am unable to answer that question
I adopted the fact that I can only live this life once. Do things you want to and don't regret it. Of course there are pros and cons that's why you've got to know what you are doing. I guess that people regret what they did because they weren't sure of what they were doing.
At that point of time, I wanted to spend. The question was 'on what'? As Morrie said, "I want to be surrounded by happy souls." I concluded that I would spend it on makan (meals/yum-cha) with family and friends. Realistically, I think I would lose them faster than to bond closer because (of course we need food and drinks) I consider a person that pays the bill showing an indirect way of personal appreciation. Obviously no one person could or should be spending everyone every meal. Move to Plan B.
Plan B started one day when I was browsing through 3rdklbb.org. Darryn, one of the person I had been keeping contact with since we met in primary school and then BB posted about an on going auction for a badge (King's Badge) on ebay on the chatbox. In the beginning I didn't really pay attention until the topic about the badges (BB Badge) struck me.
I could spend on that and keep it as a collection.
In no time, I was surfing ebay and bidding for the badge. Being new to it, I was unsure of how to bid and how ebay works. So Darryn was dragged into the picture. On our very fist ebay item, we accompanied one another (romantically~~ kidding) talking just about the King's Badge. Unable to wait till the auction end, I just entered my amount and went to bed.
Logging onto ebay started to become something we both did daily from that day onwards.
Waking up the next morning, I quickly checked whether I won the bid for King's Badge. Unfortunately and fortunately I lost. Yes, I didn't win but then I thought
If I would had won, I wouldn't be able to pay because I didn't know how to (so much for 'knowing' what I was doing.. lol~~!!)
Knowing how to use Paypal was next alongside with learning how to use auto-bid. I didn't really spend the time learning to do so until about a week later when my younger sister msn-ed me one morning asking whether she should pay for my item that I've won (Queen's Badge). Of course I said yes and finally learned how to pay using Paypal.
You'd rather get confused from me wanting King's Badge but getting Queen's Badge. I would one fine day post about those badges for your reading.
Of course Darryn did his bidding as well. His method of winning the items were a mile more sophisticated than mine. Till today, we are still scouting for interesting BB-related items ranging from badges -> books. We've slowly shifted from collecting badges to history research.
Now that I've spent, it's time to make the best use of what I have (learning from another close friend of mine, Chin Gian). It would only be a matter of time before the articles of the badges are compiled and posted either here or at 3rdklbb.org

Life - the series (part 1).......... Tuesday with Morrie and my days with Mr Ravi
It talks about the life of the author with his professor from when under him till the time the author was with his professor at his dying moments.
The last class of the professor's life took place once a week every Tuesday. The author was the only student under the professor that time. The topic, The Meaning fo Life. No books were required as teaching was all based on experience. On top of that, there was no exam but were required to keep a log on what they did.
After graduation, as most people do, they move on their seperate path but Morrie and his students were special. They came back. It was what reminded me of my late teacher, the late Mr. Ravindran. He was the reason we (whom knows him) visited my primary school, he was the reason why we had a 'SKTD reunion for students of year 2000' (was attended by at least 80% of the total students of that year). But it could never happen again as he had moved on and only memories of him will be in each student he touched very deeply.
Anyway, moving back to the topic,
Mitch (the author) started visiting his professor more frequently after his professor was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ASL), Lou Gehrig's disease. The professor's condition turned from bad to worse. from losing energy of the lower half of the body, being unable to walk, unable tend his hygene and finally bed ridden. However, he kept his soul alive. Knowing that time was limited, he tried to attend to as many thing especially those whom visited him in particular, Mitch.
It's like being a child again - that was what Morrie said. Altough being embarrassed that he needed someone to help him when he needed to urinate (someone will have to hold a beaker for him) and also to wipe his ass later. He gave in looking at the bright side.
It's a very very interesting long story but below are the things which i could remember that he mentioned:-
Personally:-
1) It's okay to cry (he cried oftenly in front of those that visited him while he was sharing)
2) Embrace aging. As you grow you learn more. If you stayed at twenty-two, you'd always be as ignorant as you were at twenty-two. Aging is not just decay, you know. It's growth. It's more than the negative that you're going to die, it's also the positive that you understand you're going to die, and that you live a better life because of it.
People and dying:-
3) People are the most important, in particular your family
a - 'I am dying. But I am surrounded by happy souls. How many people can say that?
b - 'So many people walk around with meaningless life. They seem half-asleep, even when they are busy doing things they think are important. This is because they're chasing wrong things. the way you get meaning into your life is to devote yourself to loving others, devote yourself to your community around you, and devote yourself to creating something that gives you purpose and meaning.'
c - 'the culture doesn't encourage you to think about such things until you're about to die. We're so wrapped up with egotistical things, career, family, having enough money, meeting the mortgage, getting a new car - So we don't get into the habit of standing back and looking at our lives and saying, Is that all I want? Is something missing?
You need someone to probe you in that direction. It won't just happen automatically.
(in a way, having a 'teacher')
The last i could remember was that he mentioned "before you die forgive yourself and then forgive the others"
An old man, a young man, and life's greatest lesson

Fuel prices increased...... Bit by Bit (3)
One of the suggestion was to increase the price but in phases. True that it has its advantages but no point crying over spilled milk.
Then i thought, a whole lum sum was also good. At least it's felt. Either way everyone (or if not most) of us would be able to adapt to it anyway. It's that human thingy. Time still ticks and life goes on.
Why the lum sum and what do we feel?
Let's face it. We caused the price increase.
Let's consider another story and equation =p
1) (E) Earth = big building (limited space)
2) (R) Resources = un-used paper/wire/glass/etc (limited)
3) (H) Inhabitants/Users = people
*considering that it's us that cause the most rapid change
4) (A) Human actions = using up space/paperwork/computers
5) (Eff -/+) Effects (Disaster/better lifestyle) = Fire
* the reason why i chose fire is because we are doing more harm compared to good (at least for the time being)
For survival and development , H uses alot of E and R which are limited right?
When a fire breaks out within the big building, the inhabitants would have to quickly put it out, common sense speaking, doing it bit by bit would definately cause the whole (if not most of it) building to be destroyed.
An arguement point would be that there will be sprinkerles putting out the flame. But again no point having loads of paper works, super computers and other super gadgets if it causes fire to occur frequently and steps are not taken.
Same as in reality, we have handphones, laptops, cars, super gadgets to help us in our daily activities. Considering that our rate of pollution is higher than the 3R (re-use, -re-cycle, re-duce). The bit by bit action will only draw us closer to the deadly disaster.
We are developing in a way that we often forget about where we really are. It's a fact not many admits

Fuel prices increased...... Why you should support (2)
1) Less motorcycle stuntmen wannabes and the 'feared riders'
Last time whenever I pass near schools there would be a few students trying the ride on one wheel if not fly with both(especially after school) but now, they are no where to be seen. I would credit this to the fuel increase. At least they would now consider their un-entertaining act. At least unwanted deaths or injuries could be reduced (what if that person die, who's to blame?). The number of riding thiefs should if not permanent then temporarily be down for a while unless they are that efficient in targeting and scouting.
2) Less pollution
Our Earth is facing a very critical moment, frequent unexpected freak weather could very well be caused by global warming. Earth whether we like it or not can go on without us but we can't without Earth. How do we make people know what critical means? I think it's till we ourselves experience huge massive disaster that we realiase.
In the show The 11th Hour, a person mentioned that we are like 'invaders' which feeds on earth just like how bacteria grows on wet bread (the science experience most of us did). I didn't believe until i saw it and thought that it was quite true.
Here's the link http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&tab=wl
(zoom to any Town eg. KL and look at the greens and buildings)
In the name of development, we had taken over the surface of earth. We formed a crust on the surface of Earth with our buildings. Same like how bacteria grows on bread.
Air is perhaps one of the most important and yet it's the worse polluted. There is no one man-made filter which could clear the air as wonderful as how trees do.
Before the fuel prices increased, people everywhere were going green and encouraging others to pollute less. The most famous is that we should cut back on green house gasses. YES to less air-cond, YES to public transport, YES to carpool-ing. All in the name of reducing green house gasses. There were also calls to appreciate nature more.
However, when prices surged up, many complained (as said earlier we will only realize after a disaster). Before the occurance, there were calls for cut in usage but when certain measures which led to such cuts in a different way generated an opposite stand. FYI (for your info) and logically speaking, to tackle problems related to pollution it needs to done in massive measures and not just a certain portion of the population baring in mind the criticallity of the situation. Of course when fuel prices increase, prices of other comodities would follow on to increase and some might decrease. Instead of saying the need to spend more, try looking from the point of appreciation. Appreciate it more (cut wastage).
The BIT BY BIT in Episode 3
Fuel prices increased...... The ones we as drivers missed out (1)
1) travel less
2) public transport
3) share transport (carpool)
In a way, it sacrificed convenience. (like duh~~~)
Of course some couldn't as it's part of work to travel alot and some whom were able to support the change
However here are some forgotten methods/alternatives which i think many would have missed out. I don't think it's so much of the price but rather the comsumption. Consume less and you'll spend less. Below is/are my consideration(s)
1) Consider installing a proper air-intake system or air-compressor
A car is just a car to many. Once you buy or own one, you will most likely just look at the scope of using it to get you to places.
Buy/own/rent car -> Use/buy fuel -> Sell car
Imagine that your car is like a basic house. For extra comfort, you add in furniture and to some extend renovate it. Like a car, such things could and should be done.
Sometimes while driving in town a car will just VVRRROOOOOMMMMMM~~ pass you with the big exhaust and loud speakers. These are the people we should learn from in terms of making our car more comfortable.
Going back to the point, what does that have to do with fuel price increase?
Most car works like how we breathe
1) Air Intake (In-hale)
2) Air + Fuel (food supply)
3) Energy
4) Air Output (Ex-hale)
A factory made car usually is given a factory grade air system (well you will know what quality it is then). When you have a proper air intake the fuel released gets burned more thus releasing more energy. One would say that burning more would mean using more fuel. In my opinion that is not true.
F = Fuel A = Air E = Energy (main) e = energy
1) F + A = E
* NOTE THAT - The amount of fuel released depends on the amount of acceleration
2) F + A + A = E + e
2) Adding an air intake system merely adds more air for the combustion
3) E + e = more distance
The above equation is what I think the work out would be like.
I would be rather silly to explain something un-affordable wouldn't I?
Ladies and Gentlemen,
there are various type of air intake systems available in the market depending on the amount and extend you are going to consider. As for me, i just added a very basic air-compressor. It is just one part of the entire system and cost around RM180 with installation. If you buy a car magazine, the promotion would state that it could save from 4-12% of fuel consumption.
2) Taking care of the engine....... Shifting gears
Engine is what converts the energy and makes the car run. Therefore, if the engine is spoiled or poorly maintained, not all energy will be used to run the car. That would most likely mean that more fuel would be consumed.
In my opinion,
At least 60% of the cars we see are automatic cars. Most of the time only 3 are used. P - park, D - drive and R - reverse. The next time you stop at any traffic lights, try using N - neutral, although I can't confirm the use of it I believe that it helps the engine in terms that it gets to rest abit. Gear 3 and 2, this gear are known as the lower gears (not all cars have both). The difference between D and 3 and/or 2 is that when going up hill, the engine of the car would be able to focus it's power to climb instead of reaching the limit to switch gear. Going down hill, 3 and/or 2 helps control the car rather than to let its speed rocket uncontrollably. You might not even have to step on your brakes at times (errmmm.... rather step but not that often).
The above are methods i think could be put to practice if one had over-looked. Look on the bright side, it's still more convenient. ^^
